Different Things to Do on Your Trip to India

So you have planned a trip to India and are all set to embark on your journey. If you have read/ heard about travel in India you will know that the opportunities to spend time are virtually limitless and there is no end to the various things to do, experiences to undertake and sights and sounds to marvel at. It can be quite challenging for a traveler to make the most of traveling in India since the country is so vast and there is just so much to do. In this article, we have shortlisted the best ways to spend time during a vacation in India.

1. Go Shopping for Unique Goods: This is a favorite pastime of all tourists in India. The handicrafts industry in the country produces just about every imaginable good, from textiles and garments to jewelry and footwear, from paintings and sculptures to household utility items and home furnishings. Instead of purchasing the usual mementoes, spend time in the bazaars and ‘haats’ of India to buy the “real India goods and wares” and take back a small piece of your trip to India with you. Delhi Haat in the capital city of Delhi, Lal Chowk in Kashmir and Meena Bazaars across various states in the country are all great examples of shopping opportunities.

2. Spend Time Trying Out the Food: Food is one of the biggest attractions of visiting India. From the spicy hot foods of Rajasthan to the localized Chinese cuisine all over the country, from the sambhar-vada of South India to the extravagant meat dishes of Kashmir, the cuisines and variety of food in India are limitless. For true Mughal cooking visit Old Delhi and Chandini Chowk in Delhi while you can try all kinds of state cuisines at Pragati Maidan and Delhi Haat.

3. Storytelling styles and puppetry are an integral part of the culture of India. No trip to India is complete without attending some shows. The India Habitat Centre in Delhi is often a venue for various street plays, concerts and small performances. Delhi Haatal ways has ongoing thematic festivals, usually with focus on specific states at a time, and one can not only buy goods and try out cuisines of the state but also attend theatre, dances and music performances of the state. These events are lively and vibrant and are a great effort on the patrons’ part to keep the ancient traditions and culture of the country alive. You can watch these age-old arts come to life, meet the performers, hear about the history of these performing arts and take beautiful pictures and videos that you will cherish for life.

4 SECRETS TO A FLAT STOMACH

4 Secrets to a Flat Stomach

by Jesse Cannone  CFT, SPN, CPRS

Do you want a flat stomach?  I don't know a person who doesn't!

People spend millions, if not billions of dollars, each year in the quest for a flat stomach.  Right now there are about 200 or more ab exercise devices out there.  There's the ab do-it, the ab rock-it, the ab roller, the ab dolly, and so many more.  You would think that with all of these amazing new products that most people would be walking around with that nice, lean mid-section they've always wanted.  Unfortunately, that's not the case.

Most, if not all of these products, will do little or nothing to flatten your stomach.  And that's because these exercise contraptions cannot eliminate the layer of fat that lies on top of your abs.

In order to be successful at thinning your waistline you must have a basic under standing of how the ab muscles function and how your body burns fat.  The first thing that needs to be understood is the difference between fat and muscle.  Fat is excess calories and is primarily stored in layers on top of muscle tissue.  Muscle is made up of fibers that contract or shorten to produce movement.  Fat cannot turn into muscle and muscle cannot turn into fat!  However, you can lose muscle and you can gain fat.  That's what happens to most people.
So if your goal is to thin your waist line and have a nice flat stomach, the first thing you need to do is decrease / eliminate the layers of fat that are on top of your abs. We all have a flat stomach; it's just some of oars are covered by excess fat.

The most effective way of flattening your stomach is a combination of strength training (with a extra focus on mid-section), cardiovascular exercise (short, hard workouts), and stable blood sugar (keeps you from adding additional fat and makes it easier for the body to use body fat for fuel).

1.  You must do some form of progressive strength training

The primary function of the ab muscle is to flex your torso forward.  However, there are also muscles that flex your torso to the side and muscles that rotate your torso.  Often times you see people on their ab roller every day doing hundreds of crunches or sit-ups.

If you want to effectively strengthen your stomach you need to incorporate the following types of exercises:

1-2 forward flexion exercises (crunch, sit-up, etc.)

1-2 side flexion exercises (side bends, side crunches, etc.)

1-2 rotational exercises (trunk rotations, standing twists, etc.)

The abs, are muscles just like any other and should be worked at most 3 times per week.  You also want to make sure you are training them progressively, working them harder each time.

2.  Use short, hard cardio workouts to increase metabolism

Cardio workouts are important because they CAN, if done correctly, increase your metabolism for 4-24 hours or more!  This means you are less likely to store any excess calories as body fat because they are more likely to be used by your elevated metabolism.  Plus, you are more likely to burn off some excess body fat.

Below is a sample interval workout that can be done with just about any activity (walking, bicycling, swimming, stair climbing, etc.).

Warm up at easy pace 2-5 minutes  Perform 30 seconds of hard work (almost as hard as possible)   Perform 1 minute of moderate work (recovery time-catch breath)  Repeat this process 6-10 times   Cool down at an easy pace for 2-5 minutes

3.  Stable blood sugar is the key

And most importantly, you must stabilize your blood sugar!  This is by far the most important factor when it comes to burning away that excess body fat and keeping it off!  To effectively stabilize your blood sugar you must feed your body frequently; like every 2-3 hours.  The key is to give your body only what it needs at that time.  Your body burns calories 24 hours a day, so, why would you only feed it once or twice a day?  Give your body the fuel it needs: vegetables, fruits, nuts, berries, whole grains, and lean proteins (chicken, fish, lean beef, eggs, etc.).

Many people are too hung up on how much fat is in food, or how healthy of a choice it is.  Calories are calories and it doesnt matter where they come from.  If theres extra wheres it going?  Yup, you guessed it body fat!

This is not to say that what you eat is not important because it is, it just doesnt have that much of an affect when it comes to fat loss.  Try to make healthy choices whenever possible, but dont feel like if you eat a cheeseburger it is guaranteed to be stored as fat.

4.  Get the help of a professional

Unfortunately, most people dont know enough about the human body, nutrition, or effective exercise to meet their health and fitness goals.  Ask yourself this one question, Am I happy with my current progress or condition?  If youre not, you should consider getting the help of a qualified personal fitness professional.  Dont depend on the information you get from magazines or from your local gym/ health club.  A qualified fitness professional can help you achieve your health and fitness goals, and in less time than you would imagine.

If you are serious about your health and fitness goals, and you are ready for that flat stomach, I recommend you start implementing the 4 strategies listed in this article.  These 4 strategies can help you take control of your metabolism and burn off that excess body fat and having you looking and feeling great!  If you would like to receive more information on how to lose those love handles please call me at 240-731-3724 or e-mail me at jesse@achieve-fitness.com

Balancing Work and Home

Balancing Work and Home

Work is addicting .....and more so when your computer is your office or shop! And while you spend hour upon hour to network with other netpreneurs and provide online customer services to your clients, you tend to neglect a dozen odd household jobs.

Hours seem to fly by when work online. As for your household duties, with great effort, you just take care of the most basic ones like fixing dinner, driving your kids to school etc.

Cleaning, Organizing, Buying Groceries, paying your bills, going to the post office etc. are postponed till the last hour. So how do your balance your work along with your home?

There are two important steps to do this.
  • First, make yourself realize the fact that you HAVE TO take some time out for your home and there is no excuse in the world to avoid that.
  • Secondly, start organizing your available time.
Here are some quick steps to help you balance your work as well as your home.
  • Divide available hours between your home and your work diligently.
  • Set timers when you are working online.
  • Maintain a 'To Do' list or a diary.
  • Picture yourself going through the troubles of paying your bills later than allowed.
  • Set aside some time for all those jobs which require you to go outside. For e.g. going to the market, post office, bank etc. Try to coincide these with each other. Say, for example, you could take care of these after driving your kids to school.
  • Make up your mind and start some kind of organizing/ decorating/ renovating activity around your house. These are so addicting that once you start, you will enjoy yourself a lot.
  • Similarly, take up your favorite hobby in the afternoon. You will love the change and enjoy getting creative.
  • Plan weekly activities. Take up cleaning once a week. Go for outings once a week. Call upon a friend once a week. This will help you maintain your social life as well.
  • Surf the net for information related to a hobby. This will get you started with that hobby and also give you the much needed break from work.
  • Surf the web with your hubby or children. Show them websites of their interest. That way, you will also get to spend more time with them.
Just like the old saying - 'You Eat to Live, You do not Live to Eat', I'll say
'You Work to Live, You do not Live to Work'. It's no use being successful on the cost of your home and your family.

The 'Dot Com Women' of today are not women who stay online for hours with a guilt feeling on the back of their minds. They are women with a strong desire to succeed in their personal and professional lives. And you are one of them! That's why you chose to read this, isn't it?

Good Luck with your efforts to striking a balance between your work and your home!

Memories of Heart - New Zealand March 2011

Our 30 years + old classmates reunion began on February 27, 2011- in the land of pure fresh air - New Zealand.
After almost 13 hours long haul flight, we arrived Auckland airport. Went through a very strict bio-security check. One of my friend forgot to declare an egg in her handbag. The outcome , she was fined NZ$400.0. So folks, remember to declare before customs in New Zealand.
I met my old friend at the airport. I could still recognise her and called her while she was wondering around whether we were arrived or not.

My friend drove us to downtown to meet other friends in a Chinese restaurant.

While most of the friends were couples, so they checked in the service apartment near downtown. As I was alone, my New Zealand friend had a room for me in her house. After dinner we walked back to the house. There were no street lights. The sky was very clear with all the stars in the sky. You could see clearly the Taurus, Orion and many others. It was so quite that you could hear one's breathe mixed with the sound of the insects.

February 28, 2011 to Christchurch
We were so excited that we began our South Island 6 days tour. We flew to Christchurch in the morning. Christchurch had the earthquake two weeks ago. We were afraid that our tour might be cancelled. The tour guide confirmed that the places we were going were miles away from Christchurch. Our tour comprised with about 40 people from different parts of the world. We stopped by a small town before we were heading to the Lake Tekapo.

Around noon, we arrived at the Lake Tekapo. The first caught in our eyes was the Church of the Good Shepherd. This small stone church was built in 1935 on the side of the Lake Tekapo to the glory of God as a memorial to the early settlers of the Mackenzie basin.

The church was by the side of Lake Tekapo.

Queenstown - a place where there's so many unforgetable moments. The coolest experience in Queenstown was the Minus 5 Degree Icebar. In the Icebar, you would experience an unreal adventure that you would never forget. The vodka cocktails or cold drink were served in a glass made from ice whilst being surrounded by 18 tonne of hand sculpted ice statues, furniture, bar and walls. The entry fee were expensive and only last for 15 minutes per session. We thought that for such a high entry fee we should stay longer than 15 minutes. We were wrong. As we got our drink in about 5 minutes and we felt the coldness inside. Before we entered the Icebar, we were provided with down jacket and gloves. The air was getting colder and colder but the time went so slow. We began to take some action to keep us warm. We had to dance to the rock music and dance around the Icebar to get some warmth. 15 minutes passed than we were out to the real world.
